Permits Required

Everest Base Camp, located in the majestic Himalayas of Nepal, is a dream adventure for many outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. However, before embarking on this awe-inspiring journey, it is essential to obtain the necessary permits to ensure a smooth and legal trekking experience. Two permits are required for the Everest Base Camp trekking: the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card, the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, and the Khumbu Area Entry Permit.

The TIMS card is an important document that tracks trekkers' information for their safety and security. It is issued by the Nepal Tourism Board and is mandatory for all trekkers. The TIMS card helps to keep a record of trekkers' itineraries and ensures that necessary rescue and medical services can be provided in case of emergencies. It also helps to monitor the flow of tourists and collect data on trekking activities in the region. TIMS Card Costs $20 per person. You can collect it through the trekking/travel company you are using for your Everest Base Camp Trekking.

The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit is required to enter the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses the Everest region. The permit aims to conserve the natural and cultural heritage of the area and funds various conservation and development projects. It is issued by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and allows trekkers to explore the stunning landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and the unique Sherpa culture of the region. It costs $30 per person.

The Khumbu Area Entry Permit is another crucial permit required for the Everest Base Camp trek. It is issued by the local government of the Khumbu region and serves to manage and regulate trekking activities in the area. The permit fees contribute to local development projects, infrastructure improvements, and environmental conservation efforts. It has been in the implementation for the last 5 years. It costs $20 per person.

To obtain these permits, trekkers can either apply individually or through a registered trekking agency in Nepal. The permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or in Lukla, the starting point of the trek. It is important to carry these permits throughout the trek and present them at various checkpoints along the route.

In conclusion, trekking to Everest Base Camp requires three permits: the TIMS card, the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, and the Khumbu Area Entry Permit. These permits not only ensure a legal and organized trekking experience but also contribute to the preservation and sustainable development of the Everest region. Obtaining these permits allows trekkers to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas and experience the rich culture and hospitality of the Sherpa people. Please, do not board on the trek until you collect these three different permits. If any inconveniences occur, please feel free to contact us.

Landing at Kalapatthar or Everest Base Camp?

Actually, this helicopter tour is as popular as the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour but sometimes it should be named as Kalapatthar Helicopter Tour because, mostly, people love landing at Kalapatthar to Everest Base Camp since Kalapatthar offers more marvellous views of mountain summits including Mt. Everest. Also, it is believed that stopping/ landing at Kalapatthar is better than landing at Everest Base Camp.

Also, the landing is determined by the weather conditions. The weather condition in the Everest region keeps changing every 20 minutes. So, it is not right to assure the trekkers to land at a particular destination like Kalapatthar or Everest Base Camp. It is their own choice or the weather conditions determine the landing.
How long will be the landing?
Everest Base Camp Helicopter Landing will long for a maximum of 30 minutes. Actually, spending a longer time at higher elevations like Everest Base Camp or Kalapatthar which are both above 5000m is not good for our body. Our body is not properly acclimatized as we are in Everest Base Camp Trek. We directly fly to Lukla and then to Everest Base Camp or Kalapatthar. So, it will be risky to stay longer than half an hour while landing at Kalapatthar or Everest Base Camp. This stop will be provided for walking around  Kalapatthar, exploring the surroundings and taking pictures and memories with your inward eyes.
Weight Limit in Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour
The weight limit for helicopters operating shuttle flights from Lukla to Everest Base Camp varies depending on the specific helicopter model and the operating company. However, as a general guideline, the weight limit for passengers and baggage typically ranges from 400 to 500 kilograms (880 to 1,100 pounds).
Due to the high altitude and challenging terrain of the Everest region, helicopters need to operate within specific weight restrictions to ensure safe takeoff, landing, and manoeuvrability. These weight limits take into account factors such as the helicopter's fuel consumption, the number of passengers on board, and the amount of cargo or baggage being transported.
Passengers should be mindful of these weight limitations and pack accordingly, considering essential gear and clothing for their Everest Base Camp trek. It is crucial to communicate your approximate weight and baggage requirements to the helicopter company in advance, as they will assess the feasibility of accommodating you on the shuttle flight. Ultimately, adhering to the weight limits ensures the safety and efficiency of the helicopter operations, allowing travellers to experience the breathtaking journey from Lukla to Everest Base Camp.
What will happen if we stop more than a maximum of half an hour at Kalapatthar or Everest Base Camp? What are the risks?
If you stay longer than a maximum of half an hour at Kalapatthar or Everest Base Camp, you may have acute mountain sickness. This may happen because you go there at above 5000m high without proper acclimatization like in other trekking trips in the Everest region. Whenever we go to higher elevations by flight or by helicopter, we have to be very cautious about acute mountain sickness. You will be in trouble if you have acute mountain sickness and eventually, your entire Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour will be unpleasant. So, please do not try to linger while landing at Kalapatthar or Everest Base Camp. Be quick and follow the instructions properly.

Secondly, you may be chilled with cold accompanied by a blow of wind. Thirdly, acute mountain sickness may occur in your body. Fourthly, you may injure your legs while walking around Everest Base Camp or Kalapatthar.
