Island peak climbing is a popular mountain climbing destination in Nepal. It is relatively short than other expedition programs available in Nepal. Island Peak got its name because when seen from a place called Dingboche, the peak looks like an island in the sea of snow. 
Standing 6,165m above sea level, Island peak climbing is a challenging climb with a lot of adventure. In this trip, along with climbing the peak, you will also get to observe and learn about the lifestyle of the famous Sherpa people.
Island peak climbing is a 16-day program. The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From Lukla, you will trek to Phakding. You will trek through various beautiful villages on the way to Namche Bazar and Tengboche that follow Phakding. 
You will get to witness some of the highest mountains in the world, like Ama Dablam and Everest. On the way, the spiritual vibes of the Buddhist shrines are irreplaceable. You will surely enjoy every moment of the trek.

Best Season to do Island Peak Climbing
March-May (spring) and September-November (autumn) are the best time to enjoy this peak climbing journey. Since there is no rainfall and snowfall during this time, you can enjoy the climb without facing any climate-related problems. The skies are clear, and you can enjoy the beauty of the Khumbu region to the fullest.
Must-Know Information
At the altitude of 6165 meters, the oxygen level is only half of that available at sea level. For some people, this means that reaching the summit of the Island peak can be strenuous. However, with the help of our well-trained guides and proper acclimatization, you can complete this climb. Make sure that you have the necessary climbing gear and adequate clothing. 
 Island peak climbing is difficult for beginners. However, someone with climbing experience and training can complete this climb efficiently. Our guides will train and prepare you for the climb before the actual ascend. So, there won’t be many problems.
You require a local area permit to enter the Khumbu region and the Island Peak climbing permit (cost varies according to Season) for this peak climbing journey.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive in Kathmandu (1320m) (B)

After you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, our staff will welcome and transfer you to the hotel in a private car or van. You can freshen up and have dinner in the evening. You will spend the rest of the day strolling around the streets of Kathmandu and preparing for the trip. Our guide and staff will provide you with the necessary information about the trip in the evening.

Day 2 : Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m) and trek to Phakding (2,610m) (B, L, D)

You will head out to the airport early in the morning for your flight to Lukla. After landing at one of the most dangerous airports in the world, you will trek to Phakding. The flight is about 40 minutes long, and the trek is about 3-4 hours. You can enjoy the scenic views of mountains and villages during the flight as well as the trek. You will walk beneath the beautiful mountains like Ama Dablam. Overnight at Phakding.

Day 3 : Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) (B, L, D)

After breakfast at Phakding, we start our journey to a significant village in the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar (3,440m). This village is also called the gateway to Mount Everest. On the way to Namche from Phakding, we cross many suspension bridges over small rivers. We walk through many pine forests before reaching the hotel in Namche. On a clear day, we can get a glimpse of Mount Everest from Namche. You can stop at different places to admire the surroundings and take photographs. After trekking for about 6 hours, we reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 4 : Rest at Namche Bazaar/ acclimatization day (B, L, D)

Today, we spent the day in Namche Bazaar. Instead of staying idle, we hike around the beautiful village. You can stroll around villages and get to know the Sherpas and their rich culture. You also have the option to hike up to the Everest View Hotel to enjoy an up-close view of the mighty Everest. You can also visit the local museum containing exhibits displaying the area’s native flora and fauna as well as the history of the Khumbu region. You can hike to other places like Khumjung Village, where you can visit the Edmund Hillary School and Khumjung Monastery. Overnight in Namche.

Day 5 : Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860m) (B, L, D)

After breakfast at Namche Bazaar, we head up to Tengboche (3,870m). The trek to Tengboche is a moderate trek with a few ups and downs. On the way to Tengboche, we can enjoy the beautiful view of mountains like Ama Dablam, Everest, and other mountains of the Himalayas. Tengboche monastery, the biggest monastery in the Everest region, lies in Tengboche. We pass through several pine forests, where we encounter the wildlife of the Khumbu region before finally reaching Tengboche. We spend the night at a lodge.

Day 6 : Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410m) (B, L, D)

From Tengboche, we will head towards Dingboche (4,350m) through a stone-paved path. On the way, we pass through beautiful villages and monasteries that display architectural excellence. We will also walk across a dense rhododendron forest before reaching Dingboche. The trail takes us through Pangboche, Debuche, and Imja Valley, from where the trail eases up. As we walk towards Dingboche, we start to see wheat fields and small settlements. We spend the night at Dingboche.

Day 7 : Rest day in Dingboche/ acclimatization day (B, L, D)

We take a rest day at Dingboche and prepare for the climb while observing the local culture of the Sherpa people and the natural beauty of the surroundings. We visit nearby monasteries and temples and talk to local Sherpas about their culture. We hike to nearby hills and monasteries. Instead of spending the day at the hotel, you can take a tour around the village in preparation for the trek. We also visit the Dingboche Monastery.

Day 8 : Trek from Dingboche to Chhukung (4,730m) (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we begin the trek to Chhukung as we walk through stone-walled fields and Imja Khola valley before walking through the glacier moraines. The majestic mountains like Lhotse and Ama Dablam surround us as we walk through the rhododendron forests. After trekking for about 5 hours, we reach Chhukung, a small settlement of Sherpas. From Chhukung, you get a beautiful and close view of Ama Dablam and the Amphu Labsta pass. Overnight in Chhukung.

Day 9 : Trek from Chhukung to Island Peak base camp (5,050m) (B,L,D)

After breakfast at Chhukung, we start our journey towards Island Peak Base Camp (5,050). On the way to the base camp, you can enjoy beautiful scenes of Mt. Ama Dablam and Mt. Lhotse. After reaching the base camp, you will prepare for the climb. At base camp, you will get a feeling like you are in a sea of snow. From the base camp, you get a beautiful view of Lhotse (8414m), Makalu (8463m), Island Peak (6189m), and Cho Oyu (8188m) as well. Your guide will give you the final instructions and training to use different climbing gear. We spend the night at the camp.

Day 10 : Summit Day (B, L, D)

Today is the main day of the trek as we head to the highest point of the trek. We start our ascent very early in the morning and reach the top at the most appropriate time to avoid deteriorating weather. It is a little more difficult than in earlier days because of the tools and gears you have to use. But, with our trained guides, the climb won’t be that difficult. After reaching the top, enjoy the scenery and take photographs before heading back to base camp. Overnight at the base camp.

Day 11 : Island Peak Base Camp to Pangboche (3985m) (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we start descending to Pangboche through the same trail. We slowly descend to the villages leaving behind the beautiful scenes of the mighty mountains like Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. It is a relatively easier trek compared to the other days. We cross Dingboche, and then Imja Khola on a suspension bridge before finally reaching Pangboche. Overnight at Pangboche.

Day 12 : Trek back from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) (B, L, D)

After breakfast in Pangboche, we start our trek to Namche Bazaar. We trek through the rhododendron and pine forest to reach Tengboche. In Tengboche, you can also visit the Tengboche monastery. From Tengboche, we descend through juniper, pine, and rhododendron forests. We might get to see wildlife such as mountain goats, snow leopards, colourful pheasants, etc. while passing through the forests. We cross the Dudh Koshi River on a suspension bridge and trek through the forests to reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 13 : Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,840m) (B, L, D)

Today is the last day of trekking in the laps of the mighty mountains and beautiful Sherpa villages. On our final day in the Himalayas, we trek towards Lukla. We walk through the pine forests and cross small springs on suspension bridges. We stop at various places to take photographs of the panoramic view of mountains. Enjoy the trek and the natural surroundings as much as you can. Overnight at Lukla.

Day 14 : Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu- 35 min flight (B, L, D)

Today is your last day in the Khumbu region. We catch an early flight to fly back to Kathmandu. We fly back to Kathmandu as we wave goodbye to the beautiful mountains of the Himalayas. It is a 40-minute flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. We reach the hotel in Kathmandu and refresh. You have the rest of the day to yourself. You can relax or head out to shop for souvenirs. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 15 : Free Day (B, L, D)

We take a rest from the tiring trek. Today, you can rest in your hotel room or choose to go on a short sightseeing tour of the city. You can visit places like Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath, and try famous Nepalese delicacies like Momo and Thakali set. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner and celebrate the success of the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 16 : Departure from Nepal (B)

Our staff will drop you at the airport in time for your flight. Your journey with us ends today. We bid you farewell, and hope to see you again.
