ISLAND PEAK CLIMB WITH EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK:
‘An adventure to the summit of stunning Imjatse Himal the Island Peak, Island Peak Climb and Everest Base Camp Trek, are a perfect combination to enjoy the thrill of this exciting adventure. Allows climbers ample time and exercise before the real big ascent on top of Island Peak, also called Imjatse Himal. Island Peak towers high at above 6,160 m / 20,205 feet, located amidst beautiful Imjatse Valley. Due to its unique position, from a distance, it certainly appears like an Island, amidst the scenic Imjatse Valley. As also surrounded by tiers of towering snow-capped peaks of Lhotse, Nuptse, Lhotse Shar, and Ama Dablam.

The name Island was given by the early mountaineers on their way to, Mt. Everest. The local name is Imjatse Himal, as listed by the NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) which controls most of the trekking peaks. And Island Peak Climb is popular among trekkers and climbers due to its accessibility, located just beyond the main trekking route. As well one can climb in the shortest time which does not involve much camping as in other trekking peaks.

Island Peak, leads to a straightforward climb to the summit with some technical sections to encounter. We have listed the climbing grade from famous French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems. As PD + means ‘Per Difficult’ with plus, a climb on ice, snow, and rocks with few technical difficulties.

But the rest of the climb is moderate with some vertical sections, of more than 60° to face. Before the final bid to the summit, from the top of Island Peak rewards a spectacular panorama of surrounding snow peaks. The Island Peak & Everest base camp trek begins from Lukla town where all treks and various adventures end. The walk follows the main trails along the Dudh Koshi River to enter the Sagarmatha National Park. Listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites, due to its unique features with the world's highest peaks, exotic flora and fauna.

The walk follows on crossing several bridges and through lovely cool alpine forest, with a slow climb to the famous Namche Bazaar. A large village size of a small town, the major hub, and marketplace of the Khumbu region. Where one can find nearly all types of facilities, as well as a perfect place for an extra day to support acclimatization.

This is very important before heading towards higher altitude destinations, from Namche Bazaar, walk on a scenic trail. As climb leads to the picturesque Tengboche Monastery, located amidst beautiful woodland and surrounded by an array of snow-peaks.

The adventure continues leaving the tall trees and lush vegetation for sheer barren mountain wilderness. The high trail leads to Pangboche the last permanent village and towards Pheriche Valley and Lobuche settlements. The first part of the adventure completes upon reaching the renowned Everest base camp.

Enjoy the dramatic views of surrounding giant peaks amidst remorseless fields of ice and glaciers with massif Khumbu Ice-Fall. For the best close views of Mt. Everest, the walk leads to a steep climb on top of a high Kalapathar black rocky ridge. Kalapathar offers breathtaking views of giant mountains with Mt. Everest at a close distance, the highest point of the trek.

After Chukung leave the comfort of cozy lodges for tented camping for a few overnights until the climb is over. Finally, the trek reaches Island Peak Base Camp for a classic and exciting ascent on the stunning peak of Imjatse Himal. At base camp, have time for acclimatization, preparation, and practice climbing, then getting ready for the final bid.

Encountering several technical and challenging sections to tackle, after hours of tough struggle on ice, snow, and rocky edge. The final push reaches you on top of Island Peak, after a hard effort, with the best of your climbing skills.

From the summit, enjoy the fantastic panorama of an array of Snow Mountains that surround the top. Enjoying the fabulous views and feeling in high spirits, head down being roped together for safety and precautions. As descent can be equally dangerous as climbing up, taking care of each step then finally ending the adventurous feat.

Enjoy the return journey downhill to Lukla through Dingboche which is at the western end of Imjatse Valley.
