Mera Peak Climb around Hinku Valley leads to the far eastern end of Khumbu and south of Mt. Everest. Mera Peak is listed as the highest trekking peak in Nepal by NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association). The governing body of Nepal for trekking peaks, Mera Peak towers high at 6,654 m / 21,825 feet. 

Located within Hinku Valley and en route Amphu-Labtsa-La around Hongu Valley, as well as close to Baruntse Himal and Mt. Makalu. 

Mera Peak stands aloof as a single-domain peak at the rim of Hinku Valley. A stunning peak, as well as one of the easiest trekking peaks to climb than other lesser mountains of Nepal Himalayas. The grade of the Mera Peak climb is from F to PD only, which means ‘Facial Easy’ and ‘Per Difficult’. The grading is used from famous and popular French / Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems, which are widely used worldwide.

Mera Peak Climb and Hinku Valley lead to moderate walks with a touch of adventure, crossing high ridges and passes. Traversing over Zatwar-La at above 4,700 m / 15,420 feet to reach the scenic hidden Hinku Valley.

The journey begins after a short swift flight from Kathmandu to land at Lukla’ Tenzing & Hillary Airport. From Lukla, the trek starts heading North-East towards Naulekh, and Kalo Himal. These high ridges form the boundary of Dudh Koshi and Hinku Valley, which is seen on arrival in Lukla.

The walk follows on crossing the Naulekh ridge and Zatwar-La pass to enter the beautiful valley of Hinku. As the trek progresses through the lovely serene woodland of juniper, rhododendron, and pines coming across cattle herder’s temporary shelters. The journey continues to Thagnak, a small settlement facing wonderful views of nearby peaks, and then reaches our destination at Khare. As well as the base camp for Mera Peak climb, enjoying a free day for acclimatization and climbing exercise.

Our great adventure starts from Khare the base camp with few lodges, the climb leads to Advance or High Camp. Setting High Camp, which makes it easier and more accessible to reach the summit safely. 

From High Camp, the starting point of our Big Day, and the main highlight of the adventure. A long steep climb starts avoiding some crevices and icy sections, wearing the right outfit. The climb continues with the expert guidance of our guide after a strenuous haul then reach on top of Mera Peak.

Enjoy the spectacular scenery of an array of towering Snow Mountain ranges that encircle the Mera Peak summit. Overlooking stupendous views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Baruntse Himal with Makalu. The magnificent views of the peaks extend towards 

Mt. Kanchenjunga in the far eastern horizon on a fine clear morning. Feeling in high spirits, and on top of the world, following the return journey on the same route to base camp at Khare.

The trek back to Lukla is an enjoyable walk after a great adventurous climb on top of Mera Peak. On reaching the eastern end of Hinku Valley at Thuli-Kharka, the last step takes you to the top of the Kalo Himal ridges. A slow and easy descent brings you to Chutanga and then to Lukla for the last overnight around the Khumbu region.

The next morning a short panoramic flight brings you back to Kathmandu.

Altitude Sickness 

Altitude sickness can affect clients in Mera Peak due to the high altitude above 5000m. Symptoms may include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. To prevent altitude sickness, gradual acclimatization is essential. Trekkers should allow their bodies time to adjust to the increasing altitude by taking regular rest days, drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding alcohol and smoking. Slow ascent rates and proper hydration are crucial. Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu 1,320 m and transfer to hotel.


On first arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, Haven Holidays Nepal staff and guide receive you. After being introduced to the staff, your baggage will be loaded in a car, coach or bus as per group size. A short drive to the centre of Kathmandu city, where your hotel is located. On checking into your lovely rooms, get refreshed from Jet-Lag, then get ready for group briefing where you will meet with other members of Mera Peak Climb. 
The guide or group leader brief with related information regarding the trek, climb, accommodation and food. 

Includes information about hours of walks with climb difficulties and overnight stops, as well as views along the treks. Evening group dinner in a nice authentic Nepali restaurant, dinner with an exciting Nepali cultural program.

Day 2 : In Kathmandu trek preparation and sightseeing tour.


Free day in Kathmandu preparation for Mera Peak Climb and Hinku Valley trek, optional sightseeing tour, if it is added to the trip cost. Kathmandu is steeped with historical and religious interesting places, including many world heritage sites.
(In case the flight operates from Ramechap, Manthali airport, afternoon 4-5 hours’ drive to reach Manthali town to catch a flight to Lukla next early morning)

Day 3 : Fly to Lukla 2, 846 m, trek to Chutanga 3,100 m / 10,170 ft. - 05 hrs. 


As per flight time for Lukla, transfer to Kathmandu domestic air-terminal as per the time given by our staff. On checking through security then board in a small aircraft of respective local airlines. An enchanting flight of 30-35 minutes overlooking grand views of the Himalayan range of peaks with Mt. Everest.

After a pleasant flight reaching Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport with a unique runway. At Lukla having time for refreshment, after getting organized with all the gear and baggage. Get ready for the first-day walk of the adventure, and follow the guide on a pleasant winding trail to Chutanga. After leaving the Lukla town heading towards sheer mountain wilderness. On reaching Chutanga, a small isolated settlement with some simple lodges for accommodation, enjoy the overnight halt. Located in a serene environment, at the bottom of high Kalo Himal or Naulekh Ridge; facing views of Kwangde peaks and Numbur Himal.

Day 4 : Trek to Thuli-Kharka 4,300 m / 14, 104 feet -06 hrs. 


The route towards Mera Peak leads to an exciting and steep climb on top of Naulekh and Kalo-Himal ridges. After a few hours of strenuous uphill, a good exercise for further adventure to Mera Peak climb. From the top cross over the Zatwar-La pass and then on the steep downhill to reach Thuli-Kharka for an overnight stop.

A small cattle herder temporary camp, having few simple huts and shelters built of rocks and mud plaster huts. Which serves as a lodge and tea house, enjoy the basic comfort with a limited food menu available; around remote and isolated corners of Khumbu. 

Day 5 : Trek to Kothey 3,691 m / 12,107 feet -05 hrs. 


From Thuli-Kharka, the morning walk leads to a downhill trail to Kothey, entering the beautiful areas of Hinku Valley. On the way enjoy great views of the Valley with the peaks of Kusum Kanguru, Peak 43, and the south face of Mera Peak. 
The walk follows through a lovely forest of pine and rhododendrons, during springtime the areas will be lively. When rhododendrons and other wildflowers are in full bloom, makes the walk more exciting. Slowly the day walk ends reaching Kothey and around Hinku Valley. Overnight in a simple and basic local teahouse/lodge with simple good meals to enjoy.

Day 6 : Trek to Thagnak 4,358 m / 14, 295 feet-06 hrs.


After a pleasant overnight in Kothey, morning walks enter the Upper Hinku Valley. As the walk proceeds heading higher, the tree line slowly disappears, and the trail follows towards Kharka, cattle herder shelters. During summer bring their yaks and cattle for grazing around the lovely meadows. The walk comes across an interesting spot at Gondaishung facing stunning views of Mera Peak, Charpatte Himal, Kusum Kanguru, and Tharmasarku.

This small nice spot with Lungsumgba Gompa, a 200-year-old Buddhist shrine. 
Enjoy rest at Gondaishung, an hour's walk to reach Thaknag, a magnificent place with several lodges and teahouses for overnight stops. On checking into the rooms, enjoy a close-up view of Charpatte Himal.

Day 7 : Rest day at Thagnak for acclimatization.


After days of walking around high-altitude terrain, enjoy the rest day at Thagnak for necessary acclimatization. A perfect height for a spare day and enjoying relaxing moments facing great views of peaks. As well as a short hike to some view-points for the best scenic views of surrounding peaks and landscapes.

Day 8 : To Khare near Mera Peak base camp 5,045 m / 16, 548 feet- 04 hrs. 


Today's trek leads close to our main highlight to Khare, which is also the base camp for Mera Peak Climb. The walk is for few hour but quite tiring due to gain in altitude. The trail follows to Dig Glacier as the walk weave past the glacial four sided lake of Charpatte Tal. Then slowly descend to Dig Kharka facing superb views of Kyeshar Glacier, Mera Peak, and Charpatte Himal. As trail leads to climb towards Hinku Nup and Shar glaciers before reaching Khare for lunch and overnight halt. Finally morning walk was completed at Khare, also the Base Camp for Mera Peak Climb, located near the bottom of staggering Mera Peak.

At Khare with few teahouses serve as lodges for trekkers and climbers, as well as climbing gear and equipment outlets. Check into one of the finest lodges for, the rest of the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the stunning view of Mera Peak's North Face.

Day 9 : At Khare pre-climbing and acclimatization.


Enjoy another rest day at Khare the base camp for acclimatization the Big Day climb the next day. The spare day allows climbers to check the gear as well as practice climbing, our guide will conduct the training exercise. Around Khare are places for practice climbs on ice and rocks, the guide will provide a final briefing regarding the climb. 

Day 10 : Climb to Mera High Camp 5,780 m / 18,958 feet - 05 hrs.


Morning from Khare, walk and climb towards Mera La which is above 5,200 m high, which separates the two valleys of Hongu and Hinku.  On walks enjoy grand views of Mera Peak's three summits with Mera South (6,065m), Mera North (6,476m), and Mera Central (6,654 m). Our goal is to reach the main Central summit, the climb leads to straightforward up towards Mera Glacier. 
Where our High or Advance Camp is located. The tents will be set on the best available ground away from rocky soil and icy smaller streams.

Afternoon our climbing guide will be busy checking the route and making the path accessible for the next day's summit bid.

Day 11 : Climb Mera Peak summit 6,654 m / 21,825 ft. and back to Khare.


An early start after mid-nights by close 2 A.M. using the best of headlights. Following the guide being roped up and secured by a main rope, the climb leads to cross the Mera glacier, the climb is not that difficult but the cold air and low oxygen level slow you down. After great progress with an easy climb of not much technical difficulty. The last 40-50 meters to the summit is the toughest and most challenging of the adventure. On a steep incline, using fixed rope and jumars to climb up the snowy dome to reach on top of the Mera Peak summit.

On reaching the summit have time to catch your breath, and then enjoy the 
jaw-dropping panorama of surrounding giant peaks. Overlooking close views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga and Lhotse with Cho Oyu. Includes views of Baruntse Himal with an array of snow-capped peaks. After capturing the magnificent moments as far as your eyes can reach. Then slowly make descent for the return journey to Khare for the last overnight around the high areas of Mera Peak.

Day 12 : Trek to Thagnak 4,358 m - 05 hrs.


From Khare return journey on the same route to Thagnak and beyond to Lukla.
The morning walk follows retracing the pleasant trail to Thagnak, after a great victory on top of Mera Peak summit.

Day 13 : Trek to Thuli-Kharka - 06 hrs.


Enjoy the return trek from Thagnak to the end of the Hinku Valley rim, following the pleasant path. The walk reaches back into dense tree lines till Kothey, and then slowly the tree lines drop for rocky areas. Reaching a small grassy field where Thuli-Kharka is situated our last overnight stop around Hinku the hidden valley.

Day 14 : Trek to Chutanga via Zatwar-La pass 4,610 m - 05 hrs.


Morning from Thuli-Kharka, a steep final climb of the adventure to reach on top of Kalo-Himal and Naulekh ridge. The climb finally leads to a cross over Zatwar La pass, from the top facing incredible views of Dudh Koshi River valley. Includes Kwangde and Numbur peaks, as the trail descends down back into the forested area at Chutanga for overnight before Lukla.

Day 15 : Trek to Lukla 2, 840 m - 04 hours.


Enjoy the last final day trek of the adventure on leaving Chutanga and the mountain wilderness for civilization back to Lukla. Follow the pleasant forested trail with a few short ups and downs to enter Lukla town.

At Lukla, enjoy the comfort of nice good lodge accommodation for the last overnight around the Khumbu region. In Lukla enjoy the last dinner party among fellow members, guides, trekking staff and cheerful strong porters.

Day 16 : Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu with afternoon free at leisure.


Rising early for breakfast in Lukla, and then walking to Tenzing & Hillary airport, as the plane arrives from Kathmandu. After checking in, and then get abroad in a small aircraft for a smooth scenic flight back to Kathmandu. 

On reaching Kathmandu airport transfer to a vehicle for a short exciting drive to your hotels. Rest of the afternoon at leisure for individual activities or just relax and recall the wonderful moments of Mera Peak Climb and Hinku Valley Trek.
(If the plane lands at Ramechap-Manthali airport, our staff transfer you to a vehicle for a 4-5 hours interesting drive to Kathmandu).

Day 17 : Free day as contingency and for individual activities.


A necessary free and spare day as a contingency in case of flight delay at Lukla or in the beginning. This can happen sometimes even during the best time of trekking and climbing seasons, due to bad and unfavorable weather conditions. 

As all goes well according to our standard itinerary, enjoy the free day in Kathmandu for individual activities and a shopping spree. Interested people can join in for another exciting tour of Patan and Bhaktapur cities. It is worth a visit to observe the local immense cultures, as it has been for hundreds of centuries.

Day 18 : International departure for homeward bound.


Last day in Nepal and at Kathmandu, as time for your respective airline's flight departures. Our guide, and staff transfer you to the airport, then bid farewell to Nepal till you return for another exciting adventure.
