Trekking to Nubri Valley and Larkya La Pass can be done from partially restored condition according to the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN).

Likewise, trekking has fully returned to 100% however as you will now need to drive to Machha Khola (around 900m) before continuing on foot.

In fact, the Budhi Gandaki area in and around is not completely restored in good condition and requires cautious trekking. An alternative route (10 Min Walk) can be done from Yaru Bagar.

Importantly, route from Machha Khola to Samagaon & Dharmashala via Jagat, Philim and Nyakphedi have been restored. You may want to ask locals about the bridges, trail condition and accommodation as we advise you to do so.

Yaru Bagar has been heavily damaged and so the hike here follows the alternative route (10Min).

The route from Jagat to Philim has been restored with the fixed sections.

The higher area from Philim leading to Samagaon & Larkya La Pass has been restored.

The Tsum Valley is not fully restored and so it’s worth researching ahead of your trek. The Sardibhir bridge damage has caused issues getting to Lokpa and past.

4. Areas Affected by the flood in the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The main area affected on the Manaslu trek by this flood event was between Machha Khola & Jagat. However, the area affected will vary depending on the settlement, crossings and higher areas.

1. Lower Route (Machha Khola, Khorlabesi and Tatopani)

The lower area was heavily impacted during the October flood as many areas were eroded by the river bank. These areas include Machha Khola which around 870-930m, Khorlabesi around 970m and Tatopani around 1190m.

Here, the walks from Soti, Khorlabesi and Tatopani have been affected so expect to have a temporary route. Walk the suggested areas to cross safely.

2. Yaru Bagar, Jagat & Salleri

Yaru Bagar was heavily impacted. Many areas near the Budhi Gandaki River have been damaged to the trail. An alternative route has been set up for trekkers to walk around this difficult area (10 Min).

In addition to, area was heavily damaged at Jagat (around 1340m) affecting much of the riverside. Salleri was impacted quite badly although treks in this area were possible with the repaired sections.

3. Philim and Sardibhir Area to Lokpa

Philim (around 1570m) is an important area to walk with many routes from. During the flood the bridge between Nyakchet & Philim was damaged causing difficulties.

Meanwhile, Sardibhir Cantilever Bridge around Lokpa has washed away damaging an important connection to Chum Valley and making the access to Tsum Valley very difficult.

4. Upper Nubri Valley (Deng, Samagaon etc.)

Unlike the lower area, the upper Nubri Valley was impacted differently to the other area. Philim is now accessible to trek to Samagaon with the restored areas.

However, like the above we do not have similar reports of extensive damage in the higher area between Philim, Samagaon, Samdo & Dharmashala. Always make sure you check the local conditions.

Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Difference

The Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley have a common area (lower part) to head to from the Budhi Gandaki Valley. But after the common area around Lokpa and Gampul they split off.

Actually, Manaslu Circuit continues up to Deng, Namrung, Samagaon, Samdo & Larkya La Pass (approx 5,106m).

In addition to, Tsum Valley goes towards Lokpa, Chumling, Chhekampar & Mu Gompa (approx 3700m).

In fact, Sardibhir area was heavily affected.

Importantly, there are similar differences in the restoration of both routes. The Tsum Valley has been opened for trekking with community efforts according to the TAAN statement. But the Kathmandu Post has reported that it is still affected and more work needed to be done.

Summary for Future Manaslu Trekking in 2027.

As you can see the lower area had good restoration but not all the higher areas. Ask about the conditions of the bridges, alternative routes, accomodation & supplies when beginning your trek.

If you are planning an organised Manaslu Circuit Trek we can help you out with getting you sorted with licensed guides, local logistics & updated routes using Haven Holidays Pvt. Ltd. However, you have to check the conditions before doing anything.

Here, the 25th of October 2026 TAAN advisory states the trekkers have resumed trekking within Khorlabesi, Jagat, Philim and Nyakphedi. The trekkers have reached Samagaon and Dharmashala, however there are sections in the lower part that need to be taken with care.

Though the trail is currently open some obstacles may be encountered along the route due to damaged bridges, unsafe slopes, landslides and crossing rivers. Importantly, this can occur mostly within the lower part of the Budhi Gandaki valley.

Here, the high route to Samagaon, Samdo, Larkya La requires regular checks to see the weather. Take into consideration high altitudes, snow and fitness levels for trekking across the pass (approx 5106m).

Heavy Rain – Changing weather can cause rivers to rise and less stable trails.

High Altitude – Above 3000m altitude sickness can be a huge concern.

Larkya La Pass – Can be affected by snow, wind and poor visibility.

How to Trek to Manaslu Safely in 2027

It is highly recommended to travel with a licensed guide and registered trekking company. Having a knowledgeable local guide will ensure any detours are identified, accommodation is organised and communication with local people is made.

Similarly, ensure you take the correct travel insurance that covers you for high altitude trekking and helicopter rescue. Include a few days of flexibility with your itinerary in case of delays from weather.

Importantly, Haven Holidays Nepal will have ensured local access is available, knowledgeable guides and transport organised before departure. Though it is recommended to have the route reassessed for each group.

6. Road Opening from Kathmandu to Machhakhola

The traditional route to start your Manaslu Circuit Trek is by road. However, the 11th October 2026 flood within the Budhi Gandaki caused damage to some key bridges along the road section near Arughat and Soti Khola.

Route from Kathmandu to Machha Khola

Traditionally the route will begin with you driving along the road from Dhading Besi to Arughat, then onto Soti Khola and Machha Khola. There is approx 160-170km and would take 8-10hrs if driving under normal conditions.

However, due to the flood that occurred on the 10th October, sections of the bridge at Arughat and Soti were washed away so some repair work was needed. This resulted in some detours being put in place.

On the 25th October it has been reported vehicles can go past the repaired Khorlabesi section. The area around Tatopani has been cleared. However, local news is stating there are some issues with the journey. Importantly, please check the vehicle point of access before your departure. TAAN have announced vehicle access to Machha Khola, however local news is stating there are still issues within the area.

Transport from Kathmandu to Manaslu Circuit

| Transport | Approx Time | Suitable for |

| Private 4wd Jeep | 8-10hrs | Families/Private Groups |

| Shared Jeep | 8-10+h | Budget |

| Local Bus & Jeep | 9-12+h | Budget |

| Private Vehicle (Walking Option) | depends on endpoint of road | Variable road conditions |

Note: The time is approximate based on normal conditions. Prices and availability must be confirmed locally.

Key points to check

Dhading Besi to Arughat – Check the condition of the highway and bridges.

Arughat to Soti Khola – Check the bridge has been repaired and vehicle restrictions.

Soti Khola to Khorlabesi – Check the road has been cleared and detours in place.

Khorlabesi to Tatopani – Check the construction/debris is completed.

Tatopani to Machha Khola – Check the final road section.

Transport from Haven Holidays

We would recommend private transport using a 4wd vehicle to ensure easy access to the Manaslu trekking area. We may also offer transport via shared jeeps or local transport depending on road conditions.

Please always check where the vehicle can actually reach for 2027. If vehicles cannot reach Machhakhola, our guide will organise the correct walking options for you.

Note: There are conflicting reports on where exactly the vehicle can reach. On the 25th October the TAAN have reported the vehicles can reach Machha Khola whilst the Kathmandu Post report the vehicles can only reach Khorlabesi and they are still walking to Jagat. Please do not state there is unlimited access to the road. Always check locally and with our professional team.

7. Alternative Routes & Detours for Manaslu Circuit Trek after the flood

Following damage to multiple lower sections of the trek due to the flash flood on the 11th October 2026, there have been several alternate routes set up.

1. Yaru Bagar Alternate Route

One of the most important detours has been the creation of a new alternate walking route. This will increase your walking time by approximately 10 minutes, however it is an easier route to avoid the damage to the section of the trek.

Importantly, follow the designated alternative route and avoid trying to walk along the damaged river route. You can ask your local guides to ensure you know where to enter and how the walking conditions are.

2. Khorlabesi to Jagat & Philim

The traditional route goes through Khorlabesi, Tatopani, Yaru Bagar & Jagat to reach Philim. This section has now been partially repaired, meaning you can follow the walking route through these villages into the higher areas of the Nubri Valley.

However, the lower section between Khorlabesi and Salleri was highly damaged. Ensure you add more walking time and follow any recommendations from locals.

3. Philim Helicopter Route

During the initial disruption, MCAP discussed a helicopter option to enter directly into Philim for those heading towards Samagaon and Larkya La. This is an emergency alternative due to severe damage to the traditional route.

However, this should not be considered a regular option. The helicopter depends on the weather, availability of aircraft, landing arrangements and will need confirmation from operators.

Alternative Route Summary and Tips

Section | Alternate Route | Extra Time Needed

Yaru Bagar | Designated Alternative Route| 10 mins

Khorlabesi – Jagat | Partially Repaired & Alternative Walking Sections | Variable (aaprox.20 mins)

Jagat – Philim | Route Open | Variable (30 mins.)

Philim to Nubri Valley| Main Trek Route| Normal Walking Times (depending on conditions)

Important Notes

Walk along the designated alternative route.

Check the condition of the bridges.

Add extra walking time due to damage.

Avoid shortcuts and unstable river banks.

Do not attempt to cross any flooded rivers or damaged bridges.

Listen to your licensed guides & local authorities.

For your Manaslu trek in 2027, we would recommend following the traditional route if possible, however ensure you speak to your local guides to confirm if you can follow any alternative routes.

11. Accommodation, Tea Houses and Food Availability After Floods

Overall, there are still some issues with accommodation along the Manaslu Circuit due to the Budhi Gandaki floods in October 2026. Some of the lower villages have had some damage to teahouses, which has caused some problems with supplies and access.

Meanwhile, Machha Khola, Khorlabesi, Tatopani and surrounding areas have been affected. Although hotels are open to trekkers by October 25th local reports indicate that it is still difficult getting essential supplies in.

Accommodation along Manaslu Circuit

Tea houses are available along the main route. However, depending on the village you may have different availability. The information below should be used as a guide.

Village| Approx elevation| Notes

Machha Khola| 870m – 930m| Check availability of accommodation after damage to lower route.

Jagat| 1340m| Hotels open to trekkers.

Deng |1860m| Check availability of rooms and food.

Namrung| 2630m| Check availability of tea houses and supplies.

Lho| 3180m| Basic mountain tea house facilities.

Samagaon| 3530m| Well established trekking accommodation.

Samdo| 3860m| Limited accommodation. It is advisable to check in advance.

Food and Facilities

Most tea houses on the Manaslu Circuit will provide traditional Nepalese food and standard trekking meals. However, due to lack of regular supplies to the remote villages there may be less food on offer.

Typical foods – Dal bhat, noodles, fried rice, soups, potatoes, eggs and pancakes.

Typical facilities – Basic rooms, shared bathrooms, eating areas and charging.

Extra facilities – Hot showers, Wi-Fi and en suite may be available but could be extra.

What to do as a trekker?

Before your trek, contact your trekking agency to confirm what accommodation you will have in each of your overnight villages. If you are trekking in October or November it is a good idea to get this sorted in advance as there will be more demand.

Additionally, due to repairs being carried out on the trails and transport issues there may be less food available. You may want to take some extra cash, be flexible and take your guide’s advice on where to stay overnight.

12. Is Tsum Valley open after the 2026 floods?

Yes! The Tsum Valley trekking route has been reported to be open again on the 25th October 2026. However, this is after it was closed and repairs were made by locals.

As the Tsum Valley takes a different route from Lokpa to Chumchet, Chhekampar and Mu Gompa the reopening of the main Manaslu Circuit to Larkya La does not mean the Tsum Valley will be open.

Sardibhir Bridge and Tsum Valley

On the 11th October the cantilever bridge near Sardibhir (close to Lokpa) was damaged by the Budhi Gandaki flood. This caused issues with getting to Chum Valley.

However, locals have repaired the damaged areas of the trail and built 4 new wooden bridges in the Sardi Khola area. As reported by TAAN on the 25th October the repairs have meant trekking is open again towards Chhekampar and Mu Gompa.

Tsum Valley Opening

Route| Opening reported by 25th October 2026

Lokpa to Sardibhir| Cantilever bridge damaged.

Sardi Khola area| 4 new wooden bridges.

Chumchet| Repairs to trail.

Chhekampar |Trekking open.

Mu Gompa| Open.

Importantly: Please note that these are temporary bridges so do not indicate that the permanent bridge has been repaired. They may also change depending on the weather, river and trail damage.

Things to know if trekking Manaslu and Tsum Valley

If you plan to trek both valleys you should check the opening of both routes. Just because the Larkya La route is open does not mean that all the crossings in Tsum Valley will be suitable.

Check what the latest updates are on the bridges and trail in Sardibhir and Sardi Khola.

Contact your trekking agency to confirm with local authorities and people.

You may want to add some extra days in case of any delays and temporary bridges.

Confirm what accommodation and food will be available in Chumchet, Chhekampar and Mu Gompa.

When planning your Tsum Valley Trek for 2027 you should ensure you have the latest local information. We would recommend checking both routes before confirming your Manaslu and Tsum Valley trek. For this, you can contact our team for the most updated information about the Manaslu trail after flood in 2026.

13. Best Time to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The ideal time to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek is in the spring and autumn months. However, weather conditions can be unpredictable.

When considering the flood in 2026, you should consider how the trails are recovering. Research recent updates to ensure there are bridges, river crossings, landslides and road access.

What Months are Best for Manaslu Circuit Trek?

There are two main trekking seasons in the Manaslu region; Autumn and Spring. Below is a table showing the usual weather conditions.

Season| Months| Weather Conditions

Spring| March-May| Warm weather, Rhododendrons in bloom

Autumn| September-November| Usually good weather conditions

Winter| December-February| Very cold, heavy snow may fall around Larkya La

Monsoon| June-August| Heavy rain, muddy trails, Landslides

Why is Autumn a Good Time to Trek Manaslu in 2027?

The months of October and November are popular months to trek. After the monsoon season, the weather is usually better so you have great mountain views. Early autumn can be wet with muddy trails and unstable ground.

October – Popular month to trek with generally good weather during the day.

November – Can be colder, especially at higher altitudes and overnight.

September – Can be affected by the monsoon.

Is Spring a Good Time to Trek Manaslu Circuit?

Spring is a great time to trek with higher temperatures during the day and colourful landscapes around the lower and mid sections. March can be cold at higher altitudes. April and May will usually be warmer.

However, there can be some cloud cover, snowfall and unpredictable mountain weather. Ensure you wear appropriate clothing.

Should I Trek Manaslu in Winter/Monsoon?

Trekking in winter can be a challenge to prepare for. Larkya La can be difficult to navigate due to the snow and ice. Monsoon season can also be risky with landslides, swollen rivers and unstable trails.

Therefore, we would recommend trekking in either spring or autumn for the best opportunities. However, ensure you check the current conditions of your route. For 2027, ensure you are aware of any updates to the trails after the flood.

14. Larkya Pass Conditions & High Altitude

Larkya Pass is the highest point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. This is a challenging trek with trekkers walking for several hours at a high altitude.

Although the lower Budhi Gandaki trail has been recovering from the flood, the high altitude can be a problem. Snow, strong winds, ice and poor visibility can all cause issues.

Larkya Pass Conditions in 2027

The weather can be unpredictable around Larkya La. In winter and early spring months you will likely experience cold temperatures and potential snowfall.

Factor| Expectations

Altitude |5,106m

Start |Dharmashala (4,460m)

Finish| Bimthang (3,720m)

Walking Time| 8-10 hours (depending on conditions)

Challenges| High altitude, snow, ice, wind and long walking times.

Preparation| Warm clothing, good footwear and early start.

How Challenging is the Dharmashala to Bimthang Trek?

This is usually the longest and most challenging day of the trek. Trekkers usually start early in the morning and will cross the pass before heading down to Bimthang.

Here, the trail can be quite challenging with steep inclines, rocky terrain and potential snow. It is important to walk at a steady pace, stay hydrated and follow your guide’s instructions.

Why is it Important to Acclimatise Before Larkya La?

It is a good idea to spend an extra day acclimatising in Samagaon. Many treks will include an extra day of rest around 3,530m before heading towards Samdo and Dharmashala.

Walk slowly – Don’t rush up to the higher villages.

Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water and ensure you are eating enough.

Know the signs – Headaches, nausea, dizziness and unusual tiredness can be signs of altitude sickness.

Tell your guide – If you begin to experience any symptoms let your guide know straight away.

Don’t go higher – If you are experiencing serious symptoms or they get worse then you should seek medical attention and descend.

Should I Cross Larkya La in Poor Weather?

Your licensed guide should check the weather forecast, snow and visibility. Don’t push yourself to cross just because it is on your itinerary.

If the conditions are becoming dangerous then you may need to delay crossing or change your itinerary. Remember that although the lower valley has been recovering from the flood, there can still be issues at high altitude.

Similarly, it is important to note that there is no guarantee that the pass will be safe or have clear mountain views in any season. Being flexible with your itinerary, ensuring you are well acclimatised and having an experienced guide will be essential for your Manaslu Circuit Trek in 2027.

15. Manaslu Trekking Safety Tips After 2026 Floods

Since the floods in the Budhi Gandaki River in October 2026 there is more planning that needs to take place. Whilst the trek is open, some of the lower areas could have some rough terrain.

According to TAAN, on the 25th October: ‘The trek is open on the main route. Trekkers and support staff should take great care and seek local advice.’ (25/10 TAAN)

Important Safety Tips:

Ensure you consult local people regarding conditions throughout your trek. Pay attention to any guidance from your licensed guide and local restrictions.

Check conditions – Ensure bridges, paths, and rivers are safe by asking for reports from each village before departure.

Don’t risk crossing flooded rivers and damaged bridges.

Stick to signposted routes.

Bring all essential items – including a first aid kit, warm clothes, torch, and trekking poles.

Plan for extra days – Have 1 or 2 extra days.

Most importantly, make sure you have a plan for emergencies – Agree with your guide how you will talk to each other in an emergency.

What preparation do I need to make for emergencies?

If something were to go wrong, it can be hard to get out of the remote mountain villages due to the road conditions and helicopter. Make sure you have travel insurance to cover trekking above 5106m and helicopter emergency evacuation.

| Preparation | Why it’s needed |

| Travel Insurance | Will cover medical costs and evacuation |

| First Aid Kit | For minor injuries |

| Emergency Contact | Will help during an emergency |

| Extra Days | Gives flexibility if the weather or path isn’t good. |

| Nepali Cash | Helps with unexpected transport and accommodation costs. |

How can I help the local community?

Local families and businesses will need time to recover form the flood damage. Try to use local teahouses, guides and porters and buy from local village businesses.

16. Manaslu Circuit Trekking with or without Guide after floods

Foreign trekkers will need to use an approved trekking company and a licensed trekking guide. However, the minimum number of trekkers has been removed from 2 to 2026 22nd March by Nepal’s Department of Immigration. However, a licensed guide is required.

Here, this means solo trekkers can now apply for a special restricted area permit. However, you will still need to trek with a licensed guide.

What are the requirements for a guide?

You will need to use a licensed guide and special permits, due to it being a restricted area to trek. However, the new rules now mean a licensed guide can take up to 7 trekkers.

| Licensed Guide | Required for foreigners |

| Approved Company | Required to get a restricted area permit |

| Solo Traveller | Can apply |

| Ratio | Max of 7 trekkers |

| Restricted Area Permit | Provided by approved company |

Why is a local guide helpful post 2026 floods?

Having an experienced guide will ensure trekkers are able to manage the ever-changing conditions throughout the lower valley. This includes knowing what routes are best to take and having knowledge of temporary bridges, damaged paths, and alternative walking routes.

Route – Ask for help with current conditions on the path.

Communication – Speak to a representative from the village, lodge owners and transport providers.

Accommodation – Book places to stay overnight.

Emergency – Coordinate with your company if you need to get evacuated or change your route.

Altitude – Monitor symptoms and will know how to help acclimatise.

Should I go with a private guide?

A private guided trek means you will be able to walk at your own pace, choose your own accommodation, and have flexibility with your route. Choosing to go on a group trek will reduce your cost and you can enjoy someone to walk with.

However, you will still need to follow the same rules regarding permits and licensed guides. Haven Holidays can organise both private treks and group treks based on availability and your preferred dates.

Pro Tips from Haven Holidays Pvt. Ltd. – Having a knowledgeable local guide post 2026 floods will help greatly to ensure temporary repairs are checked. Ensure your guide has a licence, is organised with a company and has the most up to date information on your route.

You can consider going on a Manaslu Circuit Trek in 2027 due to the re-opening of the main walking route. However, you should keep in mind that the area is still recovering from the Budhi Gandaki floods that occurred on the 11th October 2026.

Meanwhile, parts of the lower Manaslu area including bridges, tracks, teahouses, etc have been affected by the flood. Whilst repairs have been made by the local community, the walk to Nubri Valley, Samagaon & Larkya La Pass can now take place.
