Poonhill Trek Video 3 days Poonhill Trek begins from Pokhara and ends in Pokhara. If you are looking for a short trek in the Annapurna region as a beginner, you can go with 3 3-day Ponhill Trek. This trek can be completed within 3 days, even if you have less than a week, just 3-4 days.

This 3-day Poonhill Trek takes you to the top of Poonhill, a popular vantage point in the Annapurna region located at an elevation of 3200m high above sea level, and offers you tremendously magnificent mountain views with stunning sunrise.

The mountain views include Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Massif, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the most alluring Machhapuchhre. The combination of the first fall of sun rays and the dazzling mountain panoramas will be the moment for a lifetime for the trekkers.

The trek begins from Kathmandu and takes you to Pokhara, then to Nayapool then to Ulleri and finally to Banthanti by jeep in spring Autumn and Winter. But in summer and rainy season, you have to begin this trek from Nayapool/Birethanti since the country's rough road doesn’t support for a jeep ride up to Ulleri and Banthanti. As you ascend to Nangethanti, you will enjoy an incredible walk through deep woods and natural waterfalls. More importantly, if you do this trek in Spring( Mar-May), you will celebrate astonishing flowering rhododendron ( the national flower of Nepal) covering the entire hills. Penultimately, you will get to Lower Ghorepani and ascend to Ghorepani village within 15 minutes.

The ascent up to Ghorepani unveils astonishing views of the entire mountain panorama of the Annapurna region including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Massif, Gangapurna, Manaslu,  Himchuli, Ganesh Himal and the most alluring Machhapuchhre.

The next day, the trekkers will make another assent to Poonhill which takes around 1 hour to get to the top and celebrate breathtaking mountain views and sunrise. People also do yoga and meditation at the top of the Poonhill.

After witnessing/collecting/experiencing unexpected mountain views and stunning sunrise from the top of Poonhill, trekkers walk down to Ghorepani and either walk down to Tadapani and Ghandruk or directly to Pokhara along the same trail.

If you want to explore Ghandruk, a massive Gurung( indigenous people of Nepal ) village, then, go with the itinerary with Tadapani and Ghandruk or if you want to avoid it, then, walk down to Ulleri and go back to Pokhara on the same day.

The Poonhill trek can be done in 2 days also from Pokhara to Pokhara and 4 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. But, these 3 days of Poonhill Trek will take you to Tadapani and Ghandruk too and we also offer you an optional itinerary to Trishuli River Rafting and Chitwan Jungle Safari if you want to combine them with this itinerary. If you are seriously planning your Poonhill Trek as a beginner or considering it as an easy trekking trip in Nepal near Pokhara, you can go through this article: Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek: A Complete Trekkers' Guide. You will hugely be benefited by it an cam make your Poonhill Trek more fascinating, safe and exciting with some must have information  regarding trek permits, food and accommodation, guide and porter and transportation.

Going up to 3200m above sea level in the mountain is not difficult and even the 3 days Poonhill trekking trail is not technical and slippery with rocky hills and steep slopes. The trail is cool and serene in Annapurna Conservation Area taking you all the way up through lush forest and natural waterfalls till you get to the highest elevation, Poonhill and Ghorepani.

Summing up, the 3-day Poonhill Trek is for beginners who want to experience an easy trek in Nepal witnessing the entire Annapurna mountain ranges. Trekkers trekking to Poonhill don’t require any technical trekking skills. Yes, beginners can do this trek.

Required Permits

Two types of different permits are required for your 3-day Poonhill Trek. They are TIMS Card ( Trekking Information Management System) Card and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit. The TIMS Card costs USD 20 and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permits costs USD 30. You can obtain these 3-day Poonhill Trekking Permits from your local travel partner or you can collect them directly.

 Food and Accommodation

Until Pokhara, trekkers will enjoy luxury accommodation and they can have the food items they like. But, when they ascend to Ulleri and Poonhill-Ghorepani, they may not have much of a chance to have accommodation and food items. However, don’t be sad, there are plenty of lodges and guesthouses to organize your accommodation and food. Moreover, your guide will manage beautiful food and accommodation for you during the trek. The local guesthouses and the lodges will offer you food items with certain criteria with prices mentioned in the menu during your 3 days Poonhill Trek.

If you are starting the trek from Kathmandu, you will have two options: air and land and if you are starting it from Pokhara, then, you have the only choice which is land. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara is 40 minutes maximum and the road trip is 7-8 hours. Even, the road gets disturbed by heavy traffic and other issues. So, flight is recommended.

After you get to Pokhara, you again have to drive to Nayapool/Birethanti and then to Ulleri and Banthanti for 2-3 hours and begin the hiking. While returning from Ghorepani-Poonhill, you can drive directly from Ghandruk to Pokhara and Pokhara to Kathmandu. ( Flight from Pokhara is optional)
