What the Transportation Options for Ghorepani Poonhill Trek with Rafting and jungle Safari? 

 If you are starting the trek from Kathmandu, you will have two options: air and land and if you are starting it from Pokhara, then, you have got the only choice which is land. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara is 40 minutes maximum and the road trip is 7-8 hours. Even, the road gets disturbed by heavy traffic and other issues. So, flight is recommended. 

But we are not directly going to Pokhara on his trip. We first drive to Trishuli Beach. It takes around 2.30 hrs and we enjoy white water river rafting there. Next, we drive to Chitwan and finally to Pokhara and then to the trailhead of Poonhill Trek. 

You can go up to Ulleir or Banthanti by jeep from Pokhara these days as there is expansion of rural road. As you end the trek at Ghandruk, you can directly drive back to Pokhara by four-wheel jeep or by public bus. 

After you get to Pokhara, you again have to drive to Nayapool/Birethanti for 2 hours and begin the hiking. While returning from Ghorepani-Poonhill, you can drive directly from Ghandruk to Pokhara and Pokhara to Kathmandu. ( Flight from Pokhara is optional)

Guide and Porter 

You require hiring at least a guide for your Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek. Without a guide, you are not recommended  doing Poonhill Trek. Hiring guide and taking his/her help will make your Poonhill Trek more fascinating, exciting and safer.

Drive to Birethati and Trek to Ulleri - 6 hrs

After breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara, you will take one and half-hour drive from Pokhara to Birethati by private Vehicle and then trek to Ulleri (1950m). Trek to Ghorepani village 2,885 m  - 04 hrs.

Morning hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani 2,640 m - 07 hrs

Start the early morning hike Poon Hilltop (3210 m) takes about an hour or a little more. On reaching the top and the highest point of the adventure enjoy the stunning sunrise views. Poon Hill with an observation tower to catch more panoramic views of the staggering mountain range. After bright and striking sunrise views along with a grand panorama of the world’s highest peaks of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Annapurna Himalayas with arrays of snow peaks.  Being refreshed with cool morning breathtaking views, head downhill to Ghorepani for breakfast, and then continue walking. From Ghorepani on an alternative route, offers more scenic views with new places of southern ridges of Annapurna Himalayas. Climb to the top of Deurali Hill, which is almost the same height as Poon Hill and walk down to the river.

After you cross the suspension bridge, you will ascend to Tadapani. From the river, it takes around 2 hours to get to Tadapani.

Start the morning walk through beautiful woodland to reach the small settlement of Bhaise Kharka. Downhill starts down to a stream and then on a winding trail to Ghandruk. One of the largest Gurung villages around the Annapurna Himalaya range. The Gurung people with similar looks like Poon Magar of Ghorepani villagers. The Gurung follow Hinduism and Buddhism religion with their own ancient culture of the Bon sect of pre-Buddhism. After that, you will see a form where you will fill up all the required information for the trip including departure date you want and click the button submit. Now you have successfully completed the form and we will reply your email promptly.

Deposit for Booking:

One needs to transfer or deposit 25% amount of the total cost of the trip. For example, if the trip you are booking costs USD 1250, the 25% percent for the booking of this trip will be USD 150. Once you have made the advance payment, you need to inform our team for the confirmation of the trip.  

Cancellation and Refund

You can cancel Ghorepani Poonhill Trek with Jungle Safari and Trishuli River Rafting if you want, but no advance payment will be returned to you. It means, no refund will be transferred to your account again for the cancellation of the trip. Actually, once you book the trip, our team needs to prepare the transportation; accommodation and the trip crew for your trip and the company will already make certain payment to other operating sections. Therefore, the other operating department like transportation, food and accommodation, trekking crews are not ready to return the advance payment to us. If you are in a rush and cannot do this, you can pay USD, AUD or CAD to the people whom you need to pay for your accommodation, food, trip costs, tipping etc. You can even exchange your currency with Nepali on the trekking routes/trip routes like in Pokhara, and Chitwan You can ask to exchange your currency with Nepal with local lodges/restaurants/hotels/ guesthouses too. But, you need to have your currency like USD, AUD or CAD. Even Indian currency does work in Nepal while paying but only Rs.100 rupees not 500 and 1000. You can pay with your currency with the current exchange rate wherever you go in Nepal.

Luggage and Storage

If you are hiring a porter for your trip in the mountains, you can pack no more than 10 kg. in the duffel bag or your backpack. We provide you with a very reliable duffel bag to put your stuff to be carried on the trip. It will be very safe to be carried by a porter. Because it is the labor rule that a porter can only maximum of 20kgs in the mountain. Please, don’t pack unnecessary stuff in the duffel bag. Two people one porter put 10kg of stuff by each individual.

If you think you don’t need the stuff you have with you in the mountains, you can store it at the hotel in Kathmandu or Pokhara.  They will keep your unnecessary luggage/stuff very safe till your return back. Ask your trip leader or hotel receptionist to do it for you before you depart for the trip. Take the luggage tag while storing the unnecessary luggage.

Actually, you can store your unnecessary stuffs at hotel in Kathmandu or Pokhara before you head for Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek. You can receive the storage after you come back from Trek. 

Meals

Meals will be provided according to the itinerary and cost includes and cost excludes. If you are given the itinerary or cost like including BB only, you will be provided breakfast only and if you have booked the trip package including a full-board meal, you will get all the meals including breakfast, dinner and lunch. Apart from main meals, if you have extra tea, coffee, cold drinks and other alcoholic drinks, you have to pay them personally.

Accommodation and Toilet Facilities

You will have very basic but neatly organized accommodation and toilet facility on the trail in the mountain while trekking. The accommodation will be twin sharing basis in a group trip and if you have private trip, you will get single. The beds are comfortable enough to spend a single or double nights in the mountain.

Nowadays, you can get Luxury Accommodation with attached toilet can be enjoyed during Poonhill Trek with Jungle Safari and Trishuli River Rafting but you have to inform prior to the trek to book it for your and it tends to cost more budget.

Normally, the lodges/teahouses/hotels and guesthouses are made up of woods and rocks and are run by local people. They try their best to comfort you during your stay with providing you extra piece of blanket and making your bed more comfortable. But, one important thing to carry during your trip in the mountain is your private sleeping bag which will make your nights more comfortable in the mountain at higher elevation and you can easily battle chilling cold nights and make your body warm.

It is very rare that you get suite room as your accommodation in the mountain during Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek.  However, recently, trekkers can get luxury accommodation with massage and sauna in Ghorepani.  The toilets are detached from the bedrooms and you should be ready share the toilet with other trekkers in the mountain. You, sometimes, can get the room with attached bathroom/washroom/toilet but it will be very rare. If you get this kind of attached bathroom accommodation, consider that you are very lucky and thank your trekking leader/guide.

Carry enough roll/toilet paper for the toilet use during the trek in the mountain. You can prepare it from the cities and even you can get them on the trail, but will be more expensive to get them on the trail.

But, you enjoy luxury accommodation in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan except in trekking days in Poonhill, in Annapurna mountains.

The trip actually begins from Kathmandu with a drive to River Rafting point in Trishuli River. The drive from Kathmandu to Trishuli River rafting point is 2.30 hrs. You will enjoy Trishuli River Rafting in Nepal for 2 hours and drive to Pokhara for Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek

After breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara, you will take a 1-hour drive from Pokhara to Birethanti. If yo uwant to go with jeep drive by road up to Ulleri or Banthali, you can take Poonhill Jeep Ride. Birethnti is a small village in the Kaski District of Nepal, Located in the Annapurna Conservation Area. It serves as an entry point for trekking heading into the Annapurna Region, particularly those starting the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (Annapurna Base Camp), and Ghorepani Trek. Birethanti is situated at the confluence of the Modi Khola and Burundi Khola making it a picturesque spot with a riverside view and lush greenery. It’s a peaceful and charming stopover for trekkers to rest and enjoy the natural beauty of the area before continuing their journey deeper into the Annapurna Region.

Electricity

You will get a good and undisturbed facility of electricity during the trip to Nepal. Even though you go to the mountain for trekking and other adventure activities, you can get the facility of electricity to charge your phones and backups. However, in some cases, you may have to face the problem of load-shedding and the local lodges and some places guesthouses may charge you some amount to charge your batteries, backups and phones in remote areas trekking. There won’t be an electricity heating system in the mountain while doing trekking or other adventure activities.  

Drinking Water

Drinking water must be pure, safe and contamination-free. You can get bottled or purified drinking water during the trip even in the mountains which is very safe for you to drink. The majority of the people who make trekking or adventure trips in the mountains go with boiled water which is prepared by the local lodges/guesthouses on the trail which is the best way to keep you safe from contaminated water. However, some people carry water purifying ingredients and they apply it to the drinking water and they drink it. But, don’t try to drink the water from the Local River, stream and taps. The bottled water you can buy along the trek in the guesthouse.

Hot Shower

Actually, a warm or hot shower makes you refresh and offers you new energy during the trip and it is also very necessary. If you are travelling in the city area in Nepal, you will easily get the facility of hot shower. But, if you are making a trip in the mountains also it may not be difficult to get hot shower during the trip now a days.  However, local lodge and guesthouse will provide you hot shower with cooking gas and solar panels. If you want to do enjoy the hot shower in the mountain, you can ask the local lodge owner to manage it.

The best way to access good communication over your smartphone is to get a local Nepali SIM Card like NT and NCELL. You get these local Nepali SIM Cards easily in Kathmandu and even in International Airport, Tribhuvan International Airport. For this, you have to present a copy of your passport and a passport-sized- photograph. You can buy a data pack via this local SIM Card and you make a very good communication.  You can make a call, and access the internet over it.

Transportation

You can use both land and air transportation for Poonhill Trek with Jungle Safari and Trishuli River Rafting. But we are not going to fly to Pokhara because we are going to do River Rafting in Tirhsuli River.  You commence this trip from Kathmandu and you go with drive to Fishling, the spot where you begin the river rafting. If you were to Pokhara directly, you could use domestic flight for Pokhara from Kathmandu.

As road transportation, you can get multiple ways of driving including luxury tourist bus, private car/jeep and local bus. The tourist bus leaves at 7 from Kathmandu for Pokhara and spend 7 hours to get the destination, Pokhara. But we are getting down at Fishing for River rafting then only we are driving to Pokhara.

You can also get local buses for Pokhara and Chitwan every hour from Kathmandu which is not recommended for you as they are very crowded and it get delayed as they frequently receive the passengers on the way.  

Private car or jeep drive is also possible from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Chitwan and back. Going Pokhara and Chitwan this way will me much more convenient for you.

The quickest and the most convenient way to get Pokhara and Chitwan from Kathmandu is domestic flight for only 35 minutes and 30 minutes respectively. If you go with flight for Pokhara from Kathmandu, you can either explore the Pokhara city or can go to Ulleri or Bantanti with Poonhill Jeep Ride to begin the trek on the same day.

You can do the same while returning back to Kathmandu from Ghorepani-Poonhill  Trek as your transportation partner. You can choose whichever way you like to go Pokhara, Chitwan and come back Kathmandu while doing your Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek with Chitwan and River Rafting in Trishuli River.

Trek Ends

Ending your trek at Sayauli Bazaar allows you to soak in the local culture, interact with residents, and perhaps even explore nearby attractions before bidding farewell to the beautiful Annapurna region. Sayauli Bazaar is often the endpoint for various treks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It's a bustling market town located in the Kaski District, surrounded by lush green hills and terraced fields. Trekkers often conclude their journeys here before heading back to Pokhara or other destinations. From From Sayauli Bazaar, the Haven Holidays team arrange transportation back to Pokhara or continue your journey to other destinations.

The whole package Poonhill Trek, Trishuli River Rafting and Chitwan Jungle Safari ends in Kathmandu officially with a farewell dinner.

Trek Extra Personal Expenses

How prodigal you are? Your trek extra personal expenses depend on it. If you love doing extra expenses on the trip, you will go to topics like alcoholic drinks, extra tea or coffee apart from the meal, tipping, some minor donations, extra snacks on the trail, some urgent personal stuff like clothing or any other equipment you immediately require on the trip in case it gets damaged or stop functioning. And, at the end of the trek, you have to give some tips to your trekking crew. For this, you have to allocate some dollars or Nepali currency.

Typical Day

The typical trip day begins with a good breakfast. You will have breakfast at around 7-8 am and begin the day after it. Then, you will have to work/walk for 3-4 hours after breakfast and you will stop for lunch. The lunchtime will be around an hour. You will order your lunch item and the restaurant/hotel/teahouse will cook for you. Sometimes, you may have to wait for some time if the restaurant or hotel is crowded. You can find the item you want in the menu prepared by the local lodge/restaurant/hotel. If you are vegetarian, no worries, you can still find the ways.

After lunch, you will resume your work/trek/trip again and end it in the after like around 3-4 pm. After that, you will check in the hotel/guesthouse/teahouse and get refreshed. Take rest, change clothing and go for dinner at around 6-7 pm. Your leader will help you to order the meals you like. At the dinner, your leader will share the important information for the next day’s trip and you can raise the question regarding it. The leader will orient you on what to wear, how to walk, what to carry and where to eat. Follow the instructions from the guide/leader very well.

Booking, Cancellation and Refund

If you want to book the trip featured by us, you require settling the 25 % payment of total trip cost. However, if you are in rush and instantly plan your trip to Nepal, then, you can make the trip payment by visiting our office in Nepal as well but we need a confirmation email prior to it.  

In case you cannot do the booked trip in the timeframe you wanted for some reasons, you have the right to postpone it. Even if you cannot do the trip after the postponement, you can transfer the same trip or other in exchange to your family, relatives and friends.

But for Everest Base Camp Trek or other any trip in Everest region, the cancellation must be made 2 months prior as we have already booked the accommodation, transportation and domestic flights in order to make your trip more consistent and convenient.

But, sorry to state that no refund will be made for the exchange of booked trip with us. We are ready to wait for months and years for your right time to do the booked trip in Nepal. Be confident that we won’t spoil your booked trip.

Travel insurance

Travel Insurance is a must thing to fix before the departure for a particular trip. In case you face sudden and unpleasant incident during the trip, you may need recue evacuation and medical expenses. For that, you must have travel insurance. Actually, life is more important than your trip. As long as you have life, you have everything. So that, have a authentic travel insurance that covers all rescue evacuation and medication expenses in case you have got some nasty accidents during the trip.

Departure

After farewell dinner with our team and the important feedback session, we will comfortably drop you to the Tribhuvan International Airport and to any other destination you want for your exit to your homeland or for the commencement of another trip. After we drop you to the destination you prefer, you can catch up your international flight and another trip you want. We wish you a very wonderful time ahead.

You will need to pack smart and light. This packing list doesn’t mean you need to pack everything listed here. This list is a guideline, and your final list will depend on your preferences and judgment as well as your tour destination and season. Follow as per your personal needs and preferences by taking this as a reference. Here’s a comprehensive list of items you should consider:

Trekking Clothing

Headwear:

  • Sun Hat/Cap for sun protection:  A Sun hat protects the face from the strong rays of the sun. Carry a lightweight hat that can be easily packed. Or A wide-brimmed hat to cover your ears, neck, and face from the strong rays of the sun.
  • Thermal hat for warmth:  You will need a warm fleece or woolen hat to keep you warm in cold temperatures, especially during freezing nights and cold Himalayan mornings.
  • Buff: At high altitudes, the air is dry and cold. A buff is an essential piece of gear to keep your neck warm and cover your mouth. It will help in protecting you against dryness as well as dust. It protects you from coughing and damaging your throat and lungs.

Body Wear:

  • Short Polypropylene sleeve shirts:  Moisture-wicking fabric, Lightweight and good for hiking at lower elevations. Nylon or synthetic fabrics are the best.
  • Long Sleeve Shirts:  Moisture-wicking fabric, long-sleeved shirts for higher elevation. Breathable, and fabric shirts will be best. Avoid cotton shirts. We recommend Merino wool or synthetic fabrics.
  • Lightweight Thermal Tops:  To keep your body warm and protect from the deep cold of the mountain. Fleece and wind stopper jacket or pullover.

Pants/Trousers

  • Hiking Pants:  We recommend bringing one or two pairs of trekking pants that are quick-drying and made of synthetic material. The type that can be zipped off into shorts can be helpful. You will need to have one waterproof pants that can be worn over your trekking pants in case of rain/heavy snow.
  • Fleece Pant:  When you arrive at your camp (lodge), you will want to change into a fresh pair of clothing. We recommend a pair of warm fleece pants or tracksuit pants.
  • Thermal Trousers:  We recommend Moisture-wicking fabric with the use of Merino wool base layers.  They can be used for sleeping in, night climbing, and the first layer in keeping your body warm and keeping cold conditions at high altitudes during the day.
  • Fleece or Woolen Pants:  We recommend Merino Wool base layers or a synthetic material that will work as well. You will want one pair of warm bottoms to wear under your trekking pants on cold days.
  • Undergarments:  Plenty of comfortable undergarments as per gender Moisture-wicking fabric

Down Jacket (Puffer Jacket)

A down jacket is a versatile and warm piece of clothing that is commonly used in trekking and is most effective when used as a mid-layer or outer layer in cold weather. Consider the layering system and pack other appropriate layers such as base layers, fleece jackets, or a waterproof shell to adjust to changing conditions. Remember to choose a down jacket that fits you well and allows for easy movement. Prioritize your comfort, warmth, and safety when selecting a down jacket for your trekking adventure.

Waterproof Outer Shell Jacket

You need waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex or similar waterproofing material as an outerwear jacket. This should be lightweight with a hood that will help protect you from rain/snow and help block the wind.

Hand-wear

  • Light Gloves: You feel comfortable with a thin liner glove for lower temperatures or to wear inside your thick outer gloves for extreme temps. having liner gloves helps to keep your hands warm at all times.
  • Warm Gloves (waterproof recommended):  Gloves are an essential item to consider when packing for trekking, especially in colder climates or high-altitude treks At high altitudes and in cold weather conditions, Keeping your hands warm is also vital in making sure you have a comfortable adventure and preventing frostbites

Ensure you choose gloves that fit well and allow for comfortable movement. Gloves that are too tight may restrict circulation, while those that are too loose may not provide sufficient warmth. Consider trying on different sizes and styles to find the right fit for your hands. It's often a good idea to pack an extra pair of gloves in case of unexpected circumstances, such as getting wet or losing a glove.

Footwear   

Hiking boots, spare laces, warm, waterproof, ankle support:  Choosing and appropriate footwear is crucial for trekking, as it directly impacts your comfort, safety, overall trekking experience. Boots with higher ankle height provide better stability and protection on uneven terrain. Boots with a waterproof or water-resistant membrane to keep your feet dry in wet conditions. Look for boots with breathable materials to prevent excessive sweating and promote comfort. When choosing your trekking footwear, it's essential to consider the terrain, weather conditions, duration of the trek, and personal preference. Ensure that you break in your new footwear before the trek to avoid discomfort or blisters during your journey.

  • Hiking Shoes: Trail Runners shoes for shorter treks on well-established trails in milder conditions, trail running shoes can be a viable option. They offer a lightweight and agile design but may provide less ankle support and protection compared to boots or hiking shoes.
  • Camp Shoes:  Camp shoes worn around camp after a day of trekking. The primary purpose of camp shoes is to give your feet a break from the rigors of trekking boots or shoes.    They provide comfort and allow your feet to breathe while you relax at camp
  • Socks: Your footwear with moisture-wicking and comfortable hiking socks made of wool or synthetic materials. Avoid cotton socks, as they tend to retain moisture and can lead to blisters. You need plenty of thin liners and thick socks you have less chance for laundry while in the mountains.
  • Gaiters : (Optional but helpful in muddy or snowy conditions) These are optional and only required during winter and rainy seasons. These can stop scree/mud/snow from getting into your boots.

Sunglasses or Goggles

  • You will need a dark, wrap-around pair of sunglasses, to protect against harsh UV rays and ice glare at higher altitudes. We recommend you carry a spare pair as well.

Backpack With Waterproof Cover

When selecting a trekking backpack, it's essential to consider its size, features, comfort, and durability. Trekking backpacks come in various sizes, typically measured in litres. The ideal size depends on the amount of gear you need to carry for a day. A backpack with a capacity of 30-40 litres multi-compartments is commonly recommended but personal preference.

A properly fitting backpack is very important for comfort and avoiding discomfort or strain during your trek. Look for backpacks with adjustable shoulder straps, a padded hip belt, and a sternum strap. Consider trying on different backpacks to find the one that fits your body shape and provides proper weight distribution. A good trekking backpack should have a supportive suspension system that effectively transfers the weight to your hips.

Note:

Invest in qualitative and reliable clothing and footwear as your whole trekking depends upon them.
Make sure your gear is in good condition and that you have everything you need for all types of weather conditions.
With proper planning and preparation, you can have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Miscellaneous:

  • Sleeping Bag (appropriate for the expected temperature):  Selecting the right sleeping bag for your trekking adventure for a comfortable and warm night's sleep. The temperature rating indicates the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep you warm. Consider the expected weather conditions and temperatures of your trek to choose a sleeping bag with an appropriate rating. while a -15°C (5°F) rated bag is better for colder temperatures. Ensure the sleeping bag is long enough to accommodate your height comfortably.                     
  • Trekking Poles: Trekking poles are additional tools for your trekking. They provide stability, support, and numerous benefits while walking. Remember to adjust the length of your trekking poles to suit the terrain and your preferred hiking style. Using trekking poles correctly, with the proper technique, can maximize their benefits and help improve your balance and stability during your trek.
  • Headlamp or Flashlight with Extra Batteries:  A headlamp is an essential piece of equipment for trekking, especially for activities in low-light or dark conditions. It provides hands-free illumination, allowing you to navigate safely and efficiently. Pack spare batteries or ensure your rechargeable headlamp is fully charged before your trek. It's also a good idea to test and familiarize yourself with the headlamp's features and operation before your adventure.
  • Towel: Quick-drying towels are typically made from highly absorbent and quick-drying materials such as microfiber or synthetic fabrics. They can absorb water efficiently and dry much faster than traditional towels. For your hygiene and comfort needs during trekking trips.
  • Water Bottle (Nalgene, 32 oz.):  We recommend having Nalgene or similar bottles. You can fill it with boiling water at night, which can also be used as hot water bottles, and drink warm water when you wake.
  • Water Bladder (Camelback): This hands-free hydration system is to keep you drinking plenty of water on the trail. You can fill before hitting the trail and easily sip water without having to stop walking.
  • Dry Bags:  You can wrap your clothes/items inside your kitbag to protect it from rain.
  • Earplugs:  Earplugs are small devices designed to be inserted into the ear canal to reduce or block out unwanted noise during sleeping.

Water filters or Purification tablets:

Water purification is most important during outdoor activities, especially when you may not have access to clean and safe drinking water sources. There are several methods you can use to purify water in such situations:

There are no facilities for Pharmacies everywhere along the trail. Some basic medicines are supplied someplace. where you can consult with a Pharmacist. Medicines are for emergencies.

Female Hygiene Items

The above-listed gears are essential for women, too. However, besides above mentioned, there are some other women's essential packing list

  • Inner Garment:  Plenty of inner garments Make sure it is breathable and not too tight.
  • Sanitary Napkins/Tampons:  It is essential for women. If you use sanitary napkins, pick the one which is long-lasting and doesn’t leak as you have to walk long hours on the trek. However, we recommend you carry tampons as they will be a little more comfortable.
  • Hair Conditioner:  Carry conditioning to protect your hair from the dry mountain air.
  • Makeup Products:  Don’t carry all your makeup products with you. Just choose some handy ones like lipstick, moisturizer, sunscreen, nail polish, polish remover, eyeliner, etc. Carry all the essential hygiene products.
  • A Small Mirror (optional):  A small mirror can be surprisingly useful item for several reason.

Is Rhododendron a national flower of Nepal?

Rhododendron Arboreum of bright red color is the national flower of Nepal, which flowers during spring time. From March till May, some rhododendron also blooms in autumn / winter times also. Ghorepani treks leads to Rhododendron forest for some days which makes the trek delightful. 

You will enjoy magnificently flowering rhododendron during your Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek with Trishuli river rafting and Chitwan. As you ascend up to Banthanti and Ghorepani via Nangethanti, you will massively enjoy the fascinating scene of this flower on the trail densely populated especially in Spring ( Mar-May). So, if you like to enjoy this breathtaking scene of flowering rhododendron on the trail from Pokhara to Ghorepani-Poonhill, you are recommended to do this trip in Spring. One cannot get to see and enjoy marvelous rhododendron except in Spring season, even not in Autumn, winter and rainy. 

How many k.m do we cover on this trek to Ghorepani?

Total of approx. 34 km / 22 miles from Hille to Ghorepani and towards Ghandruk village. Although a short distance walks of 4 days treks covering 34 km, but due to steep uphill and downhill makes the treks longer. But, these days, the Poonhill Jeep ride will take you up to Ulleri or Banthanti directly. So, that total distance you walk from Banthanti-Ghorepani and Poonhill-Ghandruk is around 15 kms. 

This distance is not from Pokhara and even not from Nayapool and Birethanti. The distance 15 kms is from Ulleri/Banthanti to Ghandruk. From Ghandruk, again you will take jeep ride back to Pokhara via Nayapool and Birethanti. 

Do we have facilities to charge our electronic items?

Yes, nearly all lodges have the facilities of hydroelectricity, some few small villages runs the electricity for guest by solar-power. All trekkers needs to pay extra for charging each electronic gadgets as per hour basis at minimum reasonable cost.

In Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, you will enjoy all sorts of facilities including luxury hotels accommodation. And, even in the mountain on the trail ffrom Pokhara to Ghorepani-Poonhill- Ghandruk, you will have the facility of charging your gadgets with some extra payment per device. For example, if you charge you smart phone, you have to pay Rs. 200-300. Recently updated information, no extra payment is made to charge your gadgets and you even need to pay for Wi-Fi installation during your Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek.  

Another important thing to bear in the mind that one may not find the charging plugs in their private rooms, but only at the dining. So, you may have to wait for your turn to charge your gadget during the peak trekking seasons like Autumn( Sep-Nov) and Spring ( Mar-May). So, you had better carry one power bank for you so that you can use it at emergency on the trail. 

Safeguard you gadget while charging at the dining or wherever you charge it. Don't leave it, the strangers may take it away.  

Is there Wi-Fi and Internet available on treks and in Chitwan?

Nearly all villages running lodge and guest-house have the facilities of internet and Wi-Fi. But sometime on the mountain the connection is quite slow and disturbing due to terrain and weather wise. In the hotel at Chitwan, visitors can have facilities of internet and Wi-Fi. And of course, in Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will enjoy it. 

In case of mountain Wi-Fi and internet, you have to pay extra like per device  Rs. 200-300. It means, if you want to install Wi-fi in one of your device like smart phone, you are going to make a payment of Rs. 200-300 for unlimited service, not per hours. However, the internet or Wi-fi may work slow due to the deep mountain terrain gorges. But, it will work, make sure. 

Optionally, you buy one local SIM card like NT and buy some data pack to run internet on it. These days, the networks of NT ( Nepal Telecom) is very good even in the mountain regions. You can get this local SIM car either in Pokhara or Kathmandu presenting your copy of passport and photograph.  


How are the foods quality on trek?



The foods on every meals like breakfast, lunch and dinner are amazingly of best quality, prepared with care and hygienic. All lodge restaurants serves as per the food menu wise on La Carte basis or Set meals of Nepali Dal Bhat (boiled / steamed rice with lentil soup and mild vegetable curry served with pickles).

The foods on the menu includes from Continental, Chinese, Indian to Nepali, some restaurants on treks also provides bakery items as well.

Most popular is Nepali Dal / Bhat, noodle soup or fried noodle with veg and eggs or meats, Mo-Mo dumpling stuffed with meats or vegetable is also popular dishes found on the treks.  

All the food items and the costs are mentioned in the menu owned by local lodge/guesthouses and you can go with any food you want. Even, the vegetarian can get sufficient options to dine at the local guesthouses on the trail. No worries for vegans, still you can enjoy the trek. 

How high is Poonhill and Ghorepani?

Poonhill and Ghorepani are 3210m and 2830m high respectively. The trail you follow is via Nayapool, Birethanti, Ulleri, Banthanti and Nangethanti to Lower Ghorepani. So ,the elevation ranges between 860m Pokhara to 3210m Poonhill in average. Ghandruk is 1900m high above the sea level.

So if you are statring your Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek with Chitwan and Trishuli River Rafting, you begin with 1350m, Kathmandu, 860m Pokhara, 3210m Poonhill and Chitwan 420m. You have to maintain the clothing and foods accordingly during this trip.  Actually, Chitwan is too hot during spring and summer and too cold during winter. And you may have mosquitoes during summer and spring in Chitwan and even  in Pokhara. Do some precautions. 

Do we need Travel and Medical Insurance?


It is very important and necessary that all trekkers requires Travel and Medical Insurance and it is mandatory too. Which should be purchased after or before booking the respective trekking programs with Haven Holidays Nepal. The insurance should be made in your own home countries, which is much easier than in Nepal.

The travel and medical insurance should cover all needful transportation required on emergency evacuation by any means of transportation and using helicopter service. As well all medical expenses, if the trip is delayed and get cancelled due to political disturbance and strikes. The next day, you will trek to Ghorepani and the third day ,you will hike to Poonhill and trek back to Ulleri or Banthanti and then drive to Pokhara directly. Or, if you want to go to Ghandruk from Ghorepani, then you have spend one day at Tadapani and then to Ghandruk. So, you can do Ghorepani Poonhill Hike and Ghandruk in 3 days. But if you want to hike Poonhill from Pokhara, then, you can do in 2 or 3 days as well.  

What is the difficulty level of Ghorepani poon hill trek?

The Poonhill Trek difficulty level is graded as easy trek in Annapurna region of Nepal. Since the Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek takes you only up to 3210m above the sea level with no steep and technical trekking trails, it is graded as an easy trek for the beginners. Now, you can spend some extra expenses on tipping and drinks. In summary, your Poonhill Trek Package cost ranges between USD 455-495. If you want to upgrade your accommodation in Pokhara and in the mountain with domestic flights both way to and from Pokhara, then, the costs will be between 599-675 USD.  

How to reach Ghorepani from Pokhara?

You can Ghorepani and Poonhill from Pokhara even by walking after 2.30 hours drive from Pokhara to Nayapool or Birethanti. But, these days, the Poonhill Jeep Drive takes you up to Ulleri or Banthanti village and you can ascend to Ghorepani on the same day or the next day. This roadway connection from Nayapool to Ulleri and Banthanti has eased the trekkers to reach Ghorepani and then to Poonhill comfortably. Most probably, within a year, the road way will connect Ghorepani directly from Pokhara through Nayapool and Birethanti.

To go to Poonhill or Ghorepani, you can take a sharing jeep orprivate jeep from Pokhara for 2.30 hours and can begin walking to Ghorepani and Poonhill. You can get to Ghorepani within 3 hours from Banthanti or Ulleri village. The trail is all the way up till you get Ghorepani.

Do you need a trekking permit for Poon Hill?

Yes, you need a trekking permit for Poon Hill. One requires collecting/ obtaining two types of trekking permits: TIMS Card and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit. The TIMS Card costs Rs. 2000 and the Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit costs Rs. 3000. You can easily obtain these Poon Hill Trekking permits from the Nepal Tourism Board office located in Kathmandu or most of the trekkers obtain these permits via their trekking partners/trekking agents located in Nepal/Kathmandu. For this, you can provide your passport copy and passport sized photographs.

 If you go up to only Australian Camp via Dhampus, you don’t require any kind of trekking permits, but if you pass Pothana and then to Landruk and Ghandruk or Ulleri through Nayapool and Birethanti, you at any cost need to have ACAP but TIMS card is not necessarily to have these days.

Ghorepani trek costs ranges between USD 550 to 700 depending on the services you want. If you want a luxury trip to Ghorepani from Kathmandu and Pokhara. The accommodation will be at least 3 star and there will be luxury car/jeep ride to the trailhead and back to Kathmandu.
