Ngawal Village: A Hidden Gem on the Annapurna Circuit

Introduction

Mani walls, stone-paved roads, and prayer wheels provide it with a spiritual atmosphere. For this reason, the majority of trekkers prefer it to the lower trail villages. Furthermore, its location is a perfect acclimatization spot prior to reaching Manang.

In conclusion, Ngawal fuses mountain scenery and cultural charm. Its peaceful atmosphere and natural ambiance make it a rewarding destination.

Geography and Location

Ngawal first of all lies on a high ridge, overlooking the Marsyangdi River Valley. It is 3,660 meters high in the Manang District. Due to this fact, the village has panoramic views of the Annapurna range.

Moreover, Ngawal lies within Gandaki Province's Annapurna Conservation Area. It is placed between Braga and Ghyaru in the upper trail. The trek is bordered by barren hills, pine forest, and rocky cliffs.

Likewise, the village itself is made up of barren alpine terrain and tremendous highland landscape. Juniper bushes and yak graze well in dry slopes. Accordingly, the terrain becomes desolate and wild.

Shortly, Ngawal's high elevation offers unprecedented vistas and a unique Himalayan experience.

Accessibility

Initially, trekkers reach Ngawal via the upper Pisang route of the Annapurna Circuit. Most begin the climb from Pisang at 3,200 meters. The route to Ngawal is steep but highly scenic.

Further, the trek passes to Ngawal through Ghyaru, another beautiful village on the high trek. The trek is filled with chortens, prayer flags, and scenery. As a result of the increase in altitude, the trekkers should walk slowly.

Ngawal is also 5–6 hours from Pisang on trek. After visiting Ngawal, the trekkers usually proceed to Manang. The high trek takes more time but offers better views and fewer tourists. In short, it is hard work to reach Ngawal, but the scenic reward is worth it.

In addition, rooms primarily consist of simple beds, blankets, and shared toilets. Some lodges offer showers warmed by the sun. Likewise, there can be electricity for charging devices.

In similar fashion, meal menus are minimal but include dal bhat, noodles, and pancakes. Supplies could be expensive because of remoteness. Drinking water is usually obtained in the form of boiled or filtered water.

Overall, Ngawal's facilities are basic but reliable. They are adequate for the purpose of trekkers in the mountains.
