If you begin Poon Hill Trek from Kathmandu, the driving distance from Kathmandu to Pokharais 200.4 km along prithvi Highway taking all 7-8 hours. The distance from Pokhara to Poonhill is 62km. The drive covers 44km from Pokhara to Nayapool/ Birethanti and the hiking distance from Nayapool to Poonhill is 22 km.
If you intend returning back along the same trail, you need to cover the same distance. But, majority of people like to go to Tadapani and then to Ghandruk during their Ghorepani-Poonhill Trek rather than backtracking along the same trail.
If you follow the different trails through Tadapani, the walking distance from Ghorepani to Tadapni is 9.7 kilometers / 6 miles and Tadapani to Ghandruk is 6.5 kilometers/ 4 miles. The distance from Tadapani to Ghandruk is shorter than the walking distance from Ghorepani to Tadapani. And, if you are returning back to Pokhara from Ghandruk, the total distance you need to cover from Ghandruk to Pokhara is 42 kilo/ 26 miles.
You can choose whichiever way you like to backtrack, either following the same trail down to Nayapool or via Tadapani and Ghandruk while doing Poon Hill Trek in Nepal.
There are two popular Poon Hill Trek Route. The most popular Poon Hill Trek Route is clockwise via Ulleri and Banthnati and the anti- clockwise which is via Ghandruk and Tadapani.
